Couples wishing to marry in St Mary’s Church

Couples arranging to be married at St Mary’s Church in Alverstoke are warmly invited to attend an afternoon in preparation for marriage.

Two of these events are held each year (in 2006 they were on Sunday 26th February and Sunday 30th April).

They run from 1.15 p.m.  –  6.15 p.m. and are held in the Church and the Parish Centre, which is opposite the church in Green Road, Alverstoke.

As you look forward in anticipation to your Wedding Day we invite you to a special time of preparation and conversation for all those getting married in St. Mary’s in 2007.

Jill Sylvester, a Relationships Counsellor, and Revd James Tabor, who is our Curate, will join us for the afternoon.  Jill and James, working in separate groups, will introduce a range of topics relevant to all who are looking forward to married life.  You will not be asked to discuss personal issues with other people, but we hope that the issues raised during the afternoon will lead to valuable discussion between you and your partner.

Issues covered will include:

Are you really communicating?

What do you each expect from marriage?

How will you resolve disagreements?

What does it mean to get married in Church?

What happens in the service?

During the afternoon light refreshments will be provided when there will be an invaluable opportunity to discuss arrangements for your wedding day with our clergy, flower arrangers, and others involved in making the day go as smoothly as possible.  You will be able to book a wedding rehearsal, and help will be available to assist with all the forms you may have to complete.

In addition, dates will be offered for you to be able to meet with the Musical Director to learn more about suitable music for the Wedding Service.

A handout of possible prayers for your service will be offered.

The afternoon will start with a short service of Thanksgiving for Marriage.

There is no additional charge for this day.

Early in 2007 you will receive an individual invitation to come to one of these Marriage Preparation Days (whichever is the more convenient for you).  We look forward to meeting you!
